Well, apart from some minor scratches and a severely bruised ego, I was fine. As for Dick Divinia, he righted the Waco and took it back to base, where he was peppered with questions for which he had no answer until I called in. It took a while for me to appreciate them, but there were several significant realizations that came from that experience:

1. Training in an airplane can be hazardous.
2. When the unexpected occurs, take appropriate action in a timely fashion.
3. If at all possible, be lucky.

Realizations 1 and 2 have had a strong influence on my career choices and business dealings over the years. As for luck, it's been with me my whole life.
