Bruce N. Whitman
Chairman, President and CEO, FlightSafety International

Bruce Whitman joined FlightSafety International in 1961 as Assistant to the President after two years as Senior Executive Assistant with the National Business Aircraft Association. Later that year, he was elected Vice President and a Director of the company. In 1962, he was named Executive Vice President. He was promoted to CEO in 2003.


He served on the Associate Membership Advisory Council of the National Business Aircraft Association and Board of Governors and Executive Committees of the Flight Safety Foundation and the Civil Air Patrol. Bruce is a former Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of Petroleum Helicopters and chaired the Nominating, Compensation and Governance Committees of the Aviall Board of Directors and was Chairman of the Executive Committee of PASSUR Aerospace. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of FlightSafety Boeing Training International; an Executive Committee member of NATA’s Air Charter Safety Foundation; past President and a Director of The Wings Club.


Bruce is currently Chairman Emeritus and a member of the Executive Committee of the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation; Chairman of the Audit Committee and member of the Executive Committee of Orbis International; a Director Emeritus of the Civil Air Patrol and the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. He is on the Boards of the Aerospace Industries Association, Corporate Angel Network, General Aviation Manufacturers Association and National Aeronautic Association; Trustee of the Air Force Academy Falcon Foundation and past Vice Chairman; Trustee of Kent School; a Trustee, member of the Executive Committee and Vice Chair of the Development Committee of the National World War II Museum; member of the Board and Audit Committee of Business Executives for National Security; and Vice Chairman of the USO of Metropolitan New York.


Following graduation from Kent School in 1951, he spent two summers as a seaman with the United States Merchant Marine while attending Trinity College, where he was on the Varsity Tennis Team for three years, and a member of Alpha Delta Phi fraternity. Graduating in 1955 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, he was commissioned a lieutenant in the United States Air Force and earned the triple ratings of pilot, navigator and bombardier serving in the Strategic Air Command. In 1957, he was appointed Assistant to the Commander, Homestead Air Force Base.


After active duty, he attended George Washington University Law School for two years. While at GWU, he flew as a Captain for East Coast Flying Service and was a pilot in the Air Force Reserve. During that time, he was Vice President of the Trinity College Washington Alumni Association. Later he also served as Vice President of the King School Board of Trustees.


Bruce Whitman was Commodore and a Director of The Belle Haven Club, Greenwich, Connecticut, having also been Vice Commodore, Treasurer, Secretary and Chairman of the Admissions Committee. He is also a former Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Belle Haven Land Association and was its President.

David Davenport
Executive Vice President, Commercial, FlightSafety International

David Davenport is an Executive Vice President of FlightSafety. His responsibilities include management of the Sales, Marketing, and Operations organizations for the company’s business and commercial aircraft training.


He joined FlightSafety in 1996 as Assistant Manager of the company’s Learning Center in West Palm Beach, Florida. David was responsible for marketing and sales at the Center, as well as overseeing the day to day operations of the rotorcraft and fixed wing training programs.


David then served as Director, CAA Training, at FlightSafety Academy in Vero Beach, Florida. He directed all training provided under the Civil Aviation Authority of the United Kingdom. This included Center operations, marketing, sales, business development and relationship management.


He was named Assistant Manager of the Atlanta Learning Center in 1999. David’s responsibilities included managing FlightSafety’s Regional Airline training programs, and marketing and sales for the Atlanta Center. He also served as Relationship Manager to Atlantic Southeast Airlines.


David became Manager of the Savannah Center in 2005. He oversaw day to day operations, marketing, sales, human resources, business development and relationship management with Gulfstream Aerospace. He became Regional Operations Manager in 2007 giving him responsibility for all Gulfstream Learning Centers worldwide as well as the Rotorcraft training centers and FlightSafety Academy.


He relocated to the company’s corporate offices in New York following his promotion to Vice President in September 2012. David most recently served as Senior Vice President.


Prior to joining FlightSafety, David was Executive Director of the Florida Division of American Flyers and worked for Computervision Corporation as a Manufacturing Engineer.


He graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1982 with a degree in business management. He served as a Squadron Operations Officer and member of the Squadron of the Year for two consecutive years. David piloted the Cessna T-37 and the supersonic Northrop T-38 jet aircraft through the U.S. Air Force Undergraduate Pilot Training program. He received the Knupius-Simpkins Award recipient for leadership, teamwork and operational excellence.


David serves on the Board of Governors of the Wings Club Foundation and the Air Charter Safety Foundation. He is also a Director of the National Business Aviation Associate Member Advisory Council.

Tom Eff
Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary

Tom Eff joined FlightSafety in 1995 as General Counsel. He was promoted to Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary and most recently to Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary.


Prior to joining FlightSafety, Tom served as Vice President & Associate General Counsel of The Continental Corporation, an international financial services company based in New York City, where he was responsible for the corporate legal work and managed the corporate legal department of the company. Prior to that position, he was a corporate law associate with the New York City office of the international law firm, Debevoise & Plimpton.


Tom received his Juris Doctor with honors from The University of Michigan Law School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the State University of New York at Binghamton and was selected to Phi Beta Kappa. Tom is a member of the American Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and the Association of Corporate Counsel.

Scott Fera
Senior Vice President, Marketing

Scott Fera has served FlightSafety’s Customers in sales and marketing since joining the company in 1979. He has held various sales and marketing positions both domestic and international since then including Regional Marketing Manager; Regional Marketing Director; National Sales Manager; Managing Director, Worldwide Sales; Vice President Sales, and most recently Senior Vice President, Marketing.


Scott graduated with a Bachelor of Science in management and a minor in marketing from the University of New Haven. He also is a 2005 graduate of Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program. He is a licensed pilot and serves as a member of the National Business Aviation Association’s (NBAA) Associate Member Advisory Council (AMAC); he is chairman of the nominating committee. AMAC meets quarterly with the NBAA Board of Directors to develop and support strategic programs for the advancement of the business aviation industry.

Raymond E. Johns, Jr. (General USAF Ret.)
Executive Vice President, Government, FlightSafety International

Ray Johns joined FlightSafety International in 2014 as Senior Vice President, and now serves as Executive Vice President, Government.


He is responsible for the company's global government business. Ray leads the activities of FlightSafety Services Corporation; the design, manufacture, and support of flight simulation equipment and visual systems; as well as the training services FlightSafety provides to government and military agencies around the world.


Prior to joining FlightSafety Ray served in the United States Air Force for 36 years. He retired with the rank of General on January 1, 2013.


Ray commanded the United States Air Force Air Mobility Command at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. He led 135,000 Air Force personnel in providing rapid, global mobility and sustainment for America’s armed forces. His responsibilities also included Presidential and nuclear airlift, air refueling, and aero-medical evacuation operations.


He commanded a fleet of 1,300 aircraft and managed relationships with 120 commercial air carriers. Ray directed air logistical responses to the Libyan crisis, Haiti earthquake, Japanese tsunami, Iraq drawdown, and Afghan surge. He served as the Director of Mobility Forces for operations in Bosnia, and was responsible for strategic airlift in Iraq and Afghanistan.


Ray served in Washington, DC at the US Air Force Headquarters as Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Plans and Programs. He developed, integrated, evaluated and analyzed the US Air Force annual budget, the Future Years Defense Program, and Air Force Long-Range Plan to support national security objectives and military strategy.


He was chosen as a White House Fellow in 1991, where he was a senior staff member in the Office of National Service. Ray served at the Headquarters of the US European Command in security assistance, strategy and congressional affairs, and at the Headquarters of the US Pacific Command as Deputy Director of Strategic Plans and Policy.


Ray is a highly experienced pilot having flown over 5,000 hours in more than 83 different aircraft. He was the chief test pilot and test program manager for the VC-25 Air Force One Replacement Program.


He received a Bachelor of Science degree in aeronautical engineering from the US Air Force Academy and a Master of Science degree in administration from Central Michigan University. Ray also graduated from the US Air Force Test Pilot School at Edwards AFB, the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, and the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Program for Senior Executives, Harvard University.

Ken Motschwiller
Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer

As Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer for FlightSafety International, Ken Motschwiller is responsible for all financial matters for the company. Ken joined the company in 1983 as the Controller and has contributed to all areas of the company through his career. He has served as Vice President, Treasurer; Vice-President, Finance; and most recently as Vice President & CFO.


Prior to joining FlightSafety, Ken was a Manager for Price Waterhouse. Ken has more than 30 years of experience in Accounting and Finance and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He is a Certified Public Accountant.

Diana Wheeler
Senior Vice President of Teammate Resources

As Senior Vice President of Teammate Resources for FlightSafety International, Diana Wheeler works closely with the senior leadership team to ensure that our teammates receive excellent support, opportunities and benefit programs.


Prior to joining FlightSafety, Diana was pro bono General Counsel to Orbis International, an international non-profit that treats preventable blindness in developing countries, operating the world’s only ophthalmic Flying Eye Hospital. She began her work with Orbis in 2006, became Assistant Secretary to the Board in 2010, joined the Board in April 2011 and was named Secretary in November 2011. Diana was previously Corporate Counsel at FlightSafety from 1998 through 2005 and has served on the Board of The New England School of Law since 1998, where she received her Juris Doctorate degree in 1990.

Steve Loranger
Senior Advisor to the CEO

Steve was most recently Chief Executive Officer and President of Xylem Inc. following his service as Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of ITT Corporation for seven years. As Chief Operating Officer at Textron Inc., he was responsible for all Textron businesses, including Bell Helicopter and Cessna Aircraft Company. Steve was also President and CEO of Honeywell's aerospace engines, systems and services business; President and CEO of AlliedSignal Engines; President of the Bendix Truck Brake Group; and Vice President of the Commercial Auxiliary Power Unit business.


He served in the United States Navy from 1975 to 1981 and obtained the rank of Lieutenant. Steve performed piloting duties including aircraft carrier operation with the A-4 Skyhawk and C-1 COD, as well as logistics and nuclear courier operations with Sabreliner, Gulfstream, and DC-9 aircraft. His Naval responsibilities included aircraft, power plants, avionics maintenance, legal, quality, and human resources. He is an airline transport rated pilot with over 4,000 hours of flight time. Steve has trained with FlightSafety for over 30 years, and currently flies a Cessna Citation CJ1.


Steve is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Colorado and holds Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees. He also completed Naval Reserve Officer Training and Naval Justice School as well as the Arizona State University Executive Business Program.


He is Chairman Emeritus and current Director of Xylem Inc. Steve was previously Director of FedEx and Exelis Inc. He is on the board of the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation, the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, and the Wings Club. Steve has also served on the board of the Business Roundtable, Aerospace Industries Association, New York Hall of Science, and the General Aviation Manufacturers Association.

Bob Reding
Senior Advisor to the CEO

Bob has successfully led and contributed to the management and operation of several airlines during his 30 years in the industry. He was most recently Executive Vice President-Operations, for AMR Corporation, the parent company of American Airlines. He also served as Senior Vice President-Technical Operations, American Airlines; Chief Operations Officer, American Eagle; President and CEO, Canadian Regional Airlines; President and CEO, Reno Air; Vice President of Flight Operations, Midway Airlines; and Vice President of Flight Operations, Air Florida.


He graduated first in his class in the United States Air Force pilot training program and served as a pilot flight examiner. He holds FAA Air Transport Pilot Ratings for Douglas DC-9/MD-80 and Boeing 737 series aircraft and has accumulated over 10,000 hours as a commercial pilot.


Bob is an honors graduate from the California State Polytechnic University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering and received his master's degree in Business Administration from Southern Illinois University. He is a member of the President's Council of the California State Polytechnic University and has served as a board member on numerous aviation, civic and charitable organizations.

Mario is responsible for all treasury functions of FlightSafety as well as financial audits for both US and international operations.

Steve Gross
Senior Vice President, Commercial

As Senior Vice President, Commercial for FlightSafety International, Steve Gross is responsible for FlightSafety’s business aviation and regional airline training sales activities worldwide.

He joined FlightSafety in 1996 and has held a number of positions with increasing responsibility since then. Steve has served as Regional Marketing Manager for the northeastern United States, Regional Marketing Director, and Director, Worldwide Sales. He was most recently Vice President, Sales.


He graduated from Embry-Riddle University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Administration and holds a Commercial Pilot license with an instrument rating. Steve held several technical support and sales positions with British Aerospace prior to joining FlightSafety.

John Van Maren
Vice President, Simulation

John is responsible for the development, manufacture, qualification and support of simulators and other advanced technology flight training devices. They are built at FlightSafety's 375,000 square foot state-of-the-art Simulation facility in Tulsa, Oklahoma and used throughout our network of Learning Centers and by government, military and Commercial Aviation Customers worldwide.

John is responsible for FlightSafety’s government and military business development and operations, as well as government relations activities.

Daniel MacLellan
Senior Vice President, Operations

As Senior Vice President of Operations, Dan MacLellan is responsible for FlightSafety’s global Learning Center operations. He provides guidance and support for the Centers, the development, management and delivery of training programs, and interaction with aviation regulatory agencies worldwide. Dan’s responsibilities also include Customer service and the entry into service of flight simulators and other advanced training devices.

 

He has held a number of positions of increasing responsibility during his career with FlightSafety. Dan served as Worldwide Sales Director at the former FlightSafety Boeing Company, Regional Marketing Manager, Assistant Manager of the Wilmington Center, Manager of the Dallas Center, Regional Operations Manager, with responsibility for six locations, and most recently, Vice President, Operations.

 

Dan received an Associate’s degree in Psychology from Quincy College, and a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Suffolk University. He also completed a Marketing Certification Program at the University of Pennsylvania-Wharton Business School as well as additional training for Entrepreneurship at Southern Methodist University. Dan holds a commercial pilot license with single and multi-engine ratings, as well as a private glider rating.

Stephen Phillips
Vice President, Communications

Steve is responsible for the design, development and distribution of FlightSafety’s communications programs. This includes promoting, protecting and enhancing FlightSafety’s brand, through advertising, marketing programs, collateral materials, and the company’s participation in trade shows and industry events around the world. He is also responsible for FlightSafety’s public and media relations activities and serves as the company’s spokesperson.

Ron Ladnier
President, FlightSafety Services Corporation

Ron is responsible for all FlightSafety Services Corporation operations, which provides turnkey aircrew training systems (ATS) and contractor logistics support (CLS) to customers worldwide. This includes military aircrew training, advanced technology training devices, support for computer based workstations and support for simulators at 15 U.S. military bases. Programs include the KC-46 ATS, the C-5 ATS, Joint Primary Aircraft Training System (JPATS) CLS and T-37/38 CLS, KC-10 ATS, C-17, HC-130P and MV-22/V-22 Osprey simulators.

Ted Bowlds
CIO, FlightSafety International

As CIO, Ted is responsible for all aspects of FlightSafety’s Information Technology programs. He leads a team of professionals that respond quickly to the changing needs of FlightSafety’s Customers and provide new and innovative solutions that further enhance the value they receive.


Ted has more than three decades of experience leading strategy, planning, administration and organizational development for commercial and military organizations. He is highly experienced in the development of information technology systems and processes, cyber research and engineering management.


He served in the United States Air Force for over 30 years and retired as a Lieutenant General. Ted earned a Master of Science in Engineering Management from the University of Dayton, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Mississippi State University.
